Dakota?? Is that you?

Someone once told me: "As you get older, there will be more and more people younger than you who are more successful"
I guess Dakota Fanning is pure proof of this.
Little girl is all grown up and on the cover of TEEN VOGUE.

Dakota has been a brilliant actress since a scarily early age. I have always been a huge fan. Who else would make an asthma attack seem so hauntingly real at the age of 4? She's worked with Kevin Beacon, Charlize Theron, Sean Penn ... the list goes on. Hmm...at the age of 4, I was running around my backyard and learning how to spell my name. Makes you feel a little insignificant, yes?
She has always picked great movies to work on but I guess she would have to eventually sell out and do something incredibly mainstream...like TWILIGHT.

But I do miss little baby Dakota...especially in I AM SAM (Great movie, you should watch it if you haven't) . She was so cute! If only she could stay that way forever. Oh well, we all have to be an adult one day. I'm still waiting for that to happen.

Daaym Barbie...

So I was doing a reading from a Media and Sexuality class and decided to share it. I WISH I saw this on TV...it would have been hilarious.

Commercial for Norwegian soft drink called SOLO:

"The parody opened when a girl exited her playroom suddenly because of a storm, leaving 'Ken' and 'Barbie' clones seated at a table in a doll's house. Ken noticed how the vigour of the storm had spilled a drop of her drink onto her chest, which then slowly rolled down between her swelling breasts- the camera supplied the close-up shot. That sparked desire: he pushed 'Barbie' against the wall and, to her surprise, began to strip off her clothes. The music was now loud, ranchy. 'Barbie' got into the right spirit and stripped off her top. 'Ken' cleaned off the table. 'Barbie lay back on the table, her legs up and apart. 'Ken' took down his pants and then... he discovered he had nothing but a bulge. Swiftly he put back on his pants and shrugged. On screen came the message: "The only soft drink that cures nothing but thirst. Solo.' "

P.S. Barbie's measurements are naturally impossible: 39-21-33 in human form... ummm, she wouldn't even be able to STAND up properly.

Actually, now that I think of it, the real Barbie would probably look a lot similar to the sexacious Dolly Parton...

I wish, I wish, I wish

I wish I was alive in the 60s for many reasons.

1) So I can be a flower child hippie and prance around in the nude
2) So I could somehow rock a fro and bell bottoms
3) So I could go to Woodstock and watch legendary performers
4) So I could challenge Yoko Ono to a duel and steal Lennon from her
5) So I could see the Beatles live
6) So I could become BFFs with Andy Warhol + convince him to do a piece on me
7) and MOST importantly, so I can go to parties like THIS and get away with it:

Smoke can be so sexy

Sometimes I light candles and blow them out, just so I can see the spontaneous patterns of the smoke. Its hypnotic. I suggest you try it but maybe have a fire extinguisher nearby just in case... you never know!

Oh, how silly we were

Some things I never understood when I was little:

1) I thought the years recycled in the 90s. Example, "1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999...1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994 ... etc etc" I think you get the point.

2) I never understood when my parents would say things like, "20 years ago today is our anniversary". HOW ON EARTH CAN 20 years ago be today when today is now and 20 years ago is in the past...!?

3) I was positive when I was 8 years old that I would never learn how to read the clock. It was so hard!

4) I thought that whenever I heard a train go by, I would shrink. NOT Suprisingly, i'm still scared of the sound of trains (Thanks to my wonderful fibbing father)

5) When I was 11, I didn't understand what it meant when the teacher said we had a test... so I never studied for anything. I was so confused why I was getting bad grades.

6) I cried the night when I was turning 10. I thought I was getting old because I was hitting double digits

7) I use to think my mom actually believed I was playing the keyboards on "auto-play" mode. I thought I was so sly.

8) When I was 7, I saw a woman on TV wearing low-rise, white jeans. I was appalled. I thought to myself, "I am never going to wear anything below my belly button" - I was much happier wearing my spandex to my chest.

Hopefully I'll remember these myths so I can tell my future kids not to believe the same things...

Something you've never seen

So, I'm on the bus the other day when I see this:

A MAN piggybacking his DOG while biking... now THAT is talent.
I don't know how safe this is but it was sure a sight I've never seen before.

The International Face

I'm jealous of this nineteen year old beauty. She can look African American, Asian AND right in-between. HOW amazing and unfair is that? Vogue named her one of the next top models of the new generation. I think they're right.
Introducing Chanel Iman (and i'm even jealous of her NAME!)

Vegan Sausage

My friend told me the other day she had a dream that I was walking around the streets persuading people to try vegan sausages made of plum. At first I laughed...and thought, how ridiculous!
Then I paused and thought, actually, that's not very unrealistic. My roommate Mandie agrees too.

Vegan sausage anyone? I swear it tastes just like plum.

Let's nap on the river

Khao Sok National Park= dream.
I'm going here and there's nothing you can do to stop me.
Can't wait for Thailand next September. Who would NOT want to be sleeping on floating bungalows in the middle of a rainforest. Paradise?

Half Past Wave

I miss the water all the time. Currently being in central NA reminds me how much I miss the Pacific. Sure I hate not knowing what is under me while i'm in the water- for instance, I admit that it scares me to death when I see a seal pop up while I am swimming. What's even worse is when the seal dives back under... because now you have NO idea where it is! At least before, you could pretend to negotiate with the slimy mammal: "hey seal, stay over there and I'll stay over here OK?"
But when it disappears, It could be swimming at your feet and for all you know, drag you under and eat you for dinner...
OK, OK very unrealistic...

But my point is, the ocean is my other half. Even just looking at it gives me endorphins. It's a place of life, healing and absolute calm. Cities near the water live to its own vibe...time is not measured in minutes but rather in waves... and i love love love it. If you've never been, you must experience it for yourself.

imagine: "What time is it?" "It's half past wave" ....mmm wouldn't that be nice.

OUCH

What women do to look good.

Oh the pain and suffering! we take hours to get ready and then we stick on a painful set of heels. 2 inch, 3 inch, 4 inch...5 inch? admit it ladies, they all hurt like like a mother f**k#$. By the end of a night out, I can pretty much account for all women that they would rather walk bare feet in shards of glass rather than keep their heels on! But I recently heard of an AMAZING solution! It's called ROLLASOLE:
cute $5 ballet slippers in vending machines. You can roll them up and stick them in your pocket or clutch. ummmmm GENIUS? It started in the UK clubs and is apparently making its way to the US and Canada. ALAS, there is a god!!!! Take a look:  http://www.rollasole.com/

Hello World

Today is a good day.
Actually, it's more than good, it's amazing. Even the grey clouds outside couldn't bring me down. Its almost as good as when you bite into a fresh piece of summer watermelon and the juice trickles down your face. Or licking off the extra chocolate fudge off your mother's baking spoon. mmmmm. Why you ask? I get to introduce myself to the world. I'm not too sure what I want my blog to be about yet but I figure this will be a chance for me to talk to everyone. An open diary to an infinite void... not to mention, another great means of procrastination. I'm so excited! Maybe no one will even read this but the thought of someone sitting halfway across the world- India or Japan perhaps- possibly reading this mundane entry makes me happy. You're probably thinking...this girl is a total dork and a little bit crazy. Well you betcha! Aren't we all a little crazy and have a little dork sitting inside? Don't deny it, you know who you are.
I think I'll start with sharing a picture of who I am. Nothing is better than a picnic on the beach, mountain side, with your closest friends.
